The library founded by Sabri Özel is shedding light on education in Şemdinli.

The Şükrü Özel Library, located within the Sabri Baran Özel Navşar Sports and Culture Center, established by businessman Sabri Özel in the Şemdinli district of Hakkari, has become an important educational and cultural space for young people and the local community.

Sümeyye Er, one of the students who uses the library, stated that there is a wide variety of resources here, and that they can access books and encyclopedias that would be difficult to find even in large cities like Istanbul.

Yusuf Erik emphasized that the library offered them a great opportunity, stating that it provided them with a place to study and easy access to the resources they needed.

Meryem Yavuz also stated that thanks to the quiet and organized environment, she was able to focus better on her lessons and books, and thus developed a regular reading habit.

Library manager Murat Erbaş stated that the library has approximately 9,600 books and has registered 1,370 members to date. He noted that the books are kept in circulation through a 15-day loan system, thus creating a continuous reading cycle. The library contains works in various languages, including Turkish, English, Kurdish, and Arabic.

The building's second floor also houses a dedicated study area for students preparing for university and civil service exams. Many students, from primary school to high school, regularly use the library. Next to the library is a museum showcasing artifacts related to the region's rich culture.

Erbaş stated that they aim to further expand the library and emphasized the importance of support from citizens who wish to donate books. The library is open six days a week and is closed only on Sundays.
